Punk Rock Phil guarding the kegs…

Heedless to the whims and desires of those of us who live this Peter Pan life of the traveling Troubadour, the wheels of rock n’ roll keep on turning the only way they will. They can carry to you to some unfortunate places as well as take you to locales of grand opportunity. Sometimes, they deliver you to a destination that is chocked full of both. In the column titled “Unfortunate”, Nowherebound must scribble about the loss of our good friend and bandmate, Dylan Karn, to his other musical endeavors (aka Dylan Disaster and the Revelry) And of course, we are sorry to see him go but we all wish him the best of luck and hope for his continued success in the future. This, however, left the band in a quandary as we thought about how to best move on. Nowherebound, as you undoubtedly already know if you are reading this blog, is an enormous family that still considers every one of our former members, “just another one of the gang”. Replacing Dylan would be a daunting task.

We needed another member of the family, one who could sling six strings and sing like an angel (aka devil). Luckily, an opportunity lurked in the shadows of misfortune. It only took a few emails and a couple of rehearsal sessions to settle in on Phil Davis (ofttimes referred to as PunkRockPhil).

Nowherebound 2020

Phil has been in the Austin punk scene for ages (insert old punk rocker joke here) and comes to us from bands Shriner Threat, Fridays Angels, and Rugaroux, to name a few. Over the years and way WAY back in the day, he filled in as a fourth member of Natchet Taylor when the need arose. Phil and his son were also featured in the Born to Lose video for Sweet Misery (look for the mohawked duo walking into the bar). Talk about already being family. We’ve been grinding it out in the Nowherebound room and are stoked to get up onstage for you again, better than ever!

Speaking of which, this is as good a place as any to let you know about this. Be sure to keep up to date with any news on the events page, but we have some new shows coming up SOON. First off, we have a couple of shows scheduled during the (now canceled) SXSW Festival here in Austin, TX. Regardless of the festival canceling activities, we are still good to go.
March 16th we will headline The Stars at Night Fest at Hole in the Wall and March 19th, we will light up your afternoon at a show at Troublemaker on the Eastside (Hey, you, 78702!). Then you can catch us with the mighty Bulemics at Vahalla on April 24th. Check out Chris Klinck’s posters of the events below.

Hope to see all you Nowherebounders come out and welcome Phil to the band! Stay True.

“Mourning Glory” Done, “Forever Blue” Single Released https://nowhereboundband.com/2019/07/28/forever-blue-single-released/ https://nowhereboundband.com/2019/07/28/forever-blue-single-released/#respond Sun, 28 Jul 2019 19:59:11 +0000 http://nowhereboundband.com/?p=1611 Dear Friends,

The wait is over! After over a year-and-a-half of writing, recording, mixing, mastering, and art-wrangling; we are proud to announce that our sixth studio album “Mourning Glory” is officially done! And it is a big one. It has been such a labor of love. The double LP is set to be released everywhere on October 25th, 2019. Being the DIY kind of band that we are, we still have a lot of work to do but we are excited to get to it. Thank you for all of your support and love.

But first off, we have something to share with you: the first single off of the upcoming album. We present to you “Forever Blue” on its maiden voyage. It is available for download and streaming on iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, and YouTube Music with many more online partners adding it over the coming days. Be sure to check your favorite music service.

You can also listen to it on our Official YouTube Channel here:

And while you are there, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE to the channel. We plan on releasing a lot more Nowherebound content there soon. Stay up to date!

Drop us a line and let us know what you think of “Forever Blue”. We’d love to hear back from you.

What’s next? Well, we have a lot of things to get done in preparation for this release. We will be shooting another music video as well as getting together a killer live set for our Official Album Release Party booked for October 25, 2019 at Kick Butt Cafe in Austin, Texas. We are finalizing T-shirt and merch designs. Klinck is knocking out some killer artwork for each individual song on the album (a daunting task to say the least). We have quite a bit left to do to get the vinyls pressed as well as all of the other odds and ends to promote and spread the word. We’ll be very busy during the next few months so keep an eye on our social media pages for updates and cool stuff.

Like what you hear? Would you like to help? In Nowherebound, we pretty much do everything in-house. DIY, baby. We recorded the songs at our bass player Clint’s house. Klinck does the artwork. Rob maintains our gear and equipment for our live shows. We samurai all of our social media and outreach, websites, IT, most of our content, etc. What we could always use is help from YOU! Share the single online. Show it to your friends. Get people to like our pages and follow us! Get others to subscribe and like. It all helps and we’d be very grateful.

Again, stay tuned for a lot more coming up. We are currently working on some tours to promote the record after the release as well as a ton of other things down the road. This is the BIGGEST record that we’ve ever done and we’ve never been prouder. We want to do it up right and do it up big.

Thank you once again for your continued support. Stay True and Please Sing On!!!

Working hard… Nowherebound Day

It’s been a while but we’ve been hard at work. So here’s a quick blog update about what we got going on. Happy Thor’s Day, everyone. Thursday is Nowherebound Day. We call it the Sabbath. Church Day. It’s the one day of the week that we try to keep holy and sacred. This Thursday is full of activity in the Nowherebound camp and we are all scurrying about. Somewhere up in a recording studio in North-Austin, Clint “Tito” Baker is leaning over the controls and dials, finishing up the mixes of our newest album “Mourning Glory”.

And speaking of, the sounds of those latest mixes are blasting out of the speakers now as Chelsea, Klinck and I work on much needed Nowherebound business. Damn, these tunes sound amazing and I can honestly say that this is the best music that I’ve ever been a part of. We are making final notes and adjustments but we are very close to finally being done with this amazing double-album and we are excited to be able to share it with you all.

Right now, Chelsea, Klinck and I are listening to “Mourning Glory” while watching Bob Ross on the tele. Earlier, we worked on a good deal of Nowherebound work. We have a tour that we are planning for Europe in September and October. We’ve been tossing ideas around. We updated tour riders, EPKs, websites, and designs. And keeping with the Sabbath, when Rob gets off of work in a few hours, he’s going to meet us down at the jam-space for a much-needed rehearsal. It is Nowherebound Day, after all.

We are beyond excited about the future. Stay tuned here for the latest news as it comes available. “Mourning Glory” is coming soon as are new shows. We’ll update you as they come. Until then, see you later.

~Natch

Maybe, Maybe Not-There Was No Part Two: The Last Six Months https://nowhereboundband.com/2018/10/18/maybe-maybe-not-there-was-no-part-two-the-last-six-months/ https://nowhereboundband.com/2018/10/18/maybe-maybe-not-there-was-no-part-two-the-last-six-months/#respond Thu, 18 Oct 2018 23:23:23 +0000 http://nowhereboundband.com/?p=1554 Fellow Lost Ruffians! (Get it? ‘Cause we’re NOWHEREBOUND!) There’s your cheese…

Chelsea here. I recently fell off the face of the earth (no, I don’t believe it’s flat) due to ridiculous amounts of recording, working, playing and life stuff. We finished the recording part of the album some time ago, and Clint has been hard at work mixing and bouncing. Mixing and bouncing. Mixing…. and….bouncing. The end of the road is still out of sight, but the wait will be so incredibly worth it. That is a promise from yours truly.

We’ve been really enjoying practicing these new songs and getting them stage ready. We’ve had a little live practice, too. This past weekend we hosted, organized and played a Beto for Senate Fundraiser. Here in Texas, we’re getting ready for a senatorial election and Beto is the guy we back. It hasn’t necessarily been the easiest road for me, this being my first experience being so politically open as an artist. I wasn’t always active in Nowherebound, for those who may not know. I went down my own rabbit trail for a few years…. but that’s another story for another time. Needless to say the nay sayers are outspoken and not modest by any means, but I’m no martyr. I’m proud of my boys for standing up tall and with a smile. I felt like it was handled with the utmost respect and dignity, and I was truly humbled by the whole damn thing. All in all, it was a two day event that left me swimming in warm and fuzzies. All the bands that participated kicked major ass. I got to meet SO MANY people who feel the same way we do about wanting to not only believe in change, but DO something about it.  We had several companies that donated items to the raffle we held as well. Check down below for a full list of everyone that participated! We’d love to continue to support these bands and companies for being a part of something that is very near and dear to our hearts.

Apart from that, we’re gearing up for our next go around which happens to be my 30th birthday! That’ll be at Kick Butt here in Austin in support of one of our favorites, Sniper 66. They’re releasing a kick ass album and I can’t wait to be a part of such a special night. We’re going to continue working hard to get this new music to you as soon as we can, and we hope this post reaches you well.

It’s so crazy how even just writing about my love of these people makes me a little teary eyed. I wouldn’t be the empowered, strong, bold, and fearless woman I am without each and every one of these amazing punk rockers in my life. Whether or not you believe in being outspoken politically or otherwise, there’s one thing I’d like to define. As far as I’m concerned, punk is not just a genre of music. It’s a way of life. It’s about equality, compassion, empathy, human rights, belief in our ability to be the change, and above all… LOVE. I was so proud when my best friend got up on stage to do his solo set on Saturday afternoon, and his political rant consisted of something along the lines of: It doesn’t matter which side of the political spectrum you fall on, or which side you think is right or wrong. It’s about waking up every morning and being the best version of yourself. Well said, Jacob. I think that hits the nail right on the head.

Sorry, but not sorry for getting a little mushy and opinionated. I guess that’s the beauty of being in charge of writing the blog. I get to do what I want! Comment below and tell us how you’ve been. Because we aren’t Nowherebound without our family, friends and fans. We need you as much as you want us around. And we love you.

Long Time No See! https://nowhereboundband.com/2018/04/11/long-time-no-see/ https://nowhereboundband.com/2018/04/11/long-time-no-see/#respond Wed, 11 Apr 2018 22:21:55 +0000 http://nowhereboundband.com/?p=1500 I know, I know. I missed a post or two….
But here’s the good news. I’m here now. And on the agenda today, I’m updating you!

A lot has happened over the last few weeks. Dylan finished his tracks, along with Clint and Natchet. And if you haven’t heard already, Klinck has just begun. He’s only on day 2 and feeling pretty stoked.

We’re all very eager to hear the songs with the lyrics. It feels like a rollercoaster for me. You start with an idea, and it becomes a reality and the journey in-between is always wild; full of twists, turns, bumps and potholes. But the beauty of this album, is the people involved are ready and willing to take on the challenges, hand in hand. And it’s gonna make for one epic record, if I say so myself.

On a personal front, I’d like to introduce myself a little bit further. My name is Chelsea. I have watched Nowherebound unfold from pretty close to day one. If you’ve ever heard “Erin Go Home” on All We Got Is Everything to Lose… that’s me! Well, me a lot of years ago. I kinda left Nowherebound to go frolic but found the flowers on this side were always sweeter anyway. So now I’m back and nestling in. As usual, these gigantic hearted men have taken me under their wings and guided me back to the light. And for always, I’m grateful.

It’s moving along over here. Thank you for staying tuned in to our journey of the making of “Mourning Glory”. We cannot wait to hear your voices singing along, and see your beautiful faces!

Until we meet,

Recording Mourning Glory: Part One https://nowhereboundband.com/2018/03/20/recording-mourning-glory-part-one/ https://nowhereboundband.com/2018/03/20/recording-mourning-glory-part-one/#respond Tue, 20 Mar 2018 13:00:06 +0000 http://nowhereboundband.com/?p=1451  As The Road Winds On…

March 20, 2018

Family, friends and fans alike: Chelsea here. I’m so incredibly honored to be sharing this studio experience with all of you. As we get closer to touring this album, I’ll be sending you sweet little updates on our journey. As most of you know, we’ve decided to double it up, and outdo ourselves with a double LP. It’s invigorating and heart-stopping all in the same breath. This is our sixth album and we are calling it “Mourning Glory”.

This will be the first record with all six of us, and as our family grows, so does our sound. We can’t wait to share our hearts and souls with you on this one.

Natchet will be taking his turn laying down tracks today in the studio. Rob and Clint, or Lightning andThunder as we so affectionately call them, have brewed up a storm with the rhythm section already. So much has been done and there’s still more to go. With this upcoming tour (stay tuned to the website and your e-mail if you’re a subscriber… announcements to come!) being my first time out of the country and my first real tour with any band,  I couldn’t be more grateful for the awesomeness that I’m surrounded by. Not only do these lovely gentleman call me family, but they really give their all on this end. All their time, all their brain power… it’s inspiring to experience this side by side.

We got to play the Altercation Punk Rock BBQ at Kick Butt Coffee last weekend during SXSW here in Austin, and it was incredible. We spent time catching up with old friends and making new ones, with awesome tunes happening the whole day through.

I’ve noticed a lot of reminiscing happening between us all lately. Remembering the times when we all first became acquainted warms my heart and awakens the dreamer in me. This is how music should be made. With love, devotion, integrity and soul.

So for now, we’ll continue to lock these tunes in and get ’em all ready for you. As I listen to these songs, I can’t contain my excitement. Stay true, friends. And please sing on.

-With love and adoration,
Chelsea
